United in Solidarity, Committed to Justice
President Trump announced the deployment of National Guard troops to Portland. As an interfaith community committed to justice and human dignity, the Interfaith Movement for Immigrant Justice (IMIrJ) stands firmly with our migrant and immigrant neighbors in the face of fear, intimidation, and militarization.
This action threatens to escalate tensions and further harm communities already carrying the weight of uncertainty and systemic injustice. IMIrJ rejects the use of military force against our neighbors and instead calls for compassion, solidarity, and collective care.
In this moment, we reaffirm our commitment to:
Standing with immigrants and migrants: We will continue to walk alongside families through accompaniment programs, emergency support, and community-led advocacy.
Collaborating for a stronger community: We will deepen our partnerships with congregations, community organizations, and allies to ensure resources, safety, and dignity for all.
Building hope in the face of fear: Through shared faith, resilience, and action, we will continue to lift up a vision of Oregon where every neighbor is welcomed and protected.
But we cannot do this work alone. We urgently call on our faith communities, local leaders, and neighbors to stand with us. Here’s how you can take action today:
Join us in showing visible solidarity at upcoming community gatherings and vigils.
Support the Sanctuary Fund so immigrant families can access emergency aid when they need it most.
Contact your elected officials to demand an end to the militarization of our city and investment in real community safety.
To our migrant neighbors: you are not alone. We see you, we stand with you, and we will not stop organizing, accompanying, and advocating until every person can live with safety, dignity, and freedom.
Together, we will not be deterred. Together, we will build the beloved community we know is possible.
