Welcome Center

The Immigrant Welcome Center operated by the Interfaith Movement for Immigrant Justice (IMIrJ) in Oregon is a community-based resource hub designed to support newly arrived immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers as they begin life in the Portland area. It provides practical assistance, connection to resources, and a welcoming space for people who have recently arrived and may be navigating a range of immediate needs.

Key functions and services of the IMIrJ Welcome Center include:

  • Resource Navigation: Helping newcomers understand and access community resources, services, and assistance programs.

  • Basic Needs Support: Distribution of food, clothing, gift cards (e.g., gas, transit fares), laundry access, and other essential items to support daily living.

  • Educational Services: Offering Citizenship class in partnership with EMO SOAR Legal classes and other learning opportunities to help people develop skills and integrate more fully into community life.

  • Appointments and Personalized Support: Individuals can schedule appointments with a Resource Navigator for more tailored assistance.

  • Community Engagement: The center acts as a physical and social space where immigrants can connect with volunteers, partner organizations, and neighbors in supportive environments.

The Welcome Center operates in Beaverton, Oregon, in partnership with the City of Hillsboro and Aloha United Methodist Church, and its hours and services are coordinated with volunteers and community partners.

Overall, IMIrJ’s Immigrant Welcome Center embodies the organization’s mission to accompany and support immigrants with dignity, offering tangible assistance and community connection as people settle into their new lives in Oregon.
